I had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with one of my most influential mentors on Sunday. I am always so excited to be around someone who I can look up to, learn from and model. I know I come away being a better person, and growing into the person I want to become
One of the main things that hit home for me on Sunday was the need to focus. We hear the word focus and we go ya, ok… now I mean the need to have LAZER beam focus!
It can be a challenge for me, as I’m sure it is for everyone to focus on their goals, because there are so many of them. You have your family, your riding, your health/exercise, your work, your hobbies, your business… So rather than do one thing really well, we are doing ten things not so well. This dilutes our focus, and affects our results.
So what can we do about that?
Firstly – only do one thing at one time.
How many of us can do more than one thing at once? I think many of us think we can, but we tend to make more mistakes, and don’t produce our best work. It’s much better, if you can, to chunk out time and decide 30 mins on one job, 30 mins on the next.
Secondly – don’t let your focus get distracted by the next ‘shiny’ thing. I am a huge lover of ‘shiny’ things whether they are new projects, new gadgets, new techniques! I love new shiny things! But they are really distractions getting in the way of what I am meant to be doing. I constantly say to myself focus on the task at hand.
Thirdly – don’t let the setbacks get you down, and change your focus. The setbacks are coming, the question is what are you going to do about it? Don’t let them change your focus, you are focussed on the task in front of you, you are focussed on your goal and vision, and NOTHING changes that 🙂
