How do you ride a corner correctly in dressage?

Hey Dressage Superstars! Today’s question is, “How do you ride a corner correctly in dressage?”

Now a corner is a really great spot to improve your bend, improve your connection with your horse and get the horse going a little bit better. Here I’m going to the ride my corner, I’m going to use my inside leg, inside and outside rein, going to ask him to bend through the corner, I’m going to accelerate him through the corner so he has to take more weight, too much, onto his hind legs.

If you work harder and do more in your corners and your short side, your entire riding experience will change, and your entire riding experience will be different. Give it a go and I’d love to hear how it changed for you in the comments below.

Hey Dressage Superstars. Today I’m going to answer the question, how do you ride a coroner correctly?

Okay, so how do you ride a corner in dressage? Now, here is me not thinking about my corner. (singing) And you can see I cut the corner quite a bit. I’m cutting the corner and my horse isn’t bent, nothing’s happening.

Now, this horse is really tricky to ride, and if you don’t balance he’ll go and you’ll stop, you get a bit in the wrong spot, but here bend and then go, go, go, go, bend, bend, whoops. And again, let’s try again. And that’s why you keep practicing them. Corners are a great opportunity to balance, you’ll go and you stop and you bend. Good boy. Happy with that one. Good boy. Good boy.

This is how I used to think about it. How I used to think of it was, “Corner, time to relax. Short side, time to relax. Rewire your thinking, retrain your brain and this is how I now think of it. Corner and short side, time to do the most work. Corner and short side, time to work, work, work, work, work and get the horse set up for whatever is coming ahead.

If you work harder and do more in your corners and your short side, your entire riding experience will change, and your entire riding experience will be different. Give it a go and I’d love to hear how it changed for you in the comments below.
