How to prevent falling out of the canter when bringing the circle smaller?

How to stop your horse from falling out of the canter when you bring the circle smaller?

Hey Dressage Superstars! Today’s question is, “How to stop your horse from falling out of the canter when you bring the circle smaller?”

Make sure you always canter out of the collection. Then you can trot and walk once you’re on the strike.

Enjoy your training. Don’t avoid the smaller circles. Do them and just have a plan. Don’t worry about it. I used to try and avoid the horse making a mistake. Now I really search and try and make it make a mistake. I want it to make the mistake so I can fix it. Then the horse knows oh, every time I make that mistake, I don’t get away with it, she fixes it. then I can go into the movement not being I worried.

Hi Dressage superstars. Today I’m going to answer the question, what do you do if your horse falls out of canter when you bring the circles smaller?

Ollie loves to fall out of canter when I bring the circle smaller. That’s normal. It’s the horse saying excuse me, that’s hard I can’t do that or I want to rest or I don’t want to do that.

Again, the horse is in front of the leg, it’s not thinking forward and it’s got to dig. It’s in a gym workout. It’s got to try harder.

Here we go smaller and for him it might have to be small for him to drop out.

Good boy. We’re okay. We’re okay. We’re okay. Good boy. We’re okay. We’re okay. Good boy.

Sorry camera man.

Good boy.

He didn’t drop out because he was trained yesterday and he knows what happened if he drops out, I’m going to make him go gallop. So he’s thinking forward which is the right thinking. You can see I’m reassuring him because it’s hot and I don’t know if you can hear him groaning.

It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.

You can see he walked or trotted. I’m just going to make him gallop for a second and then straight back into it. So go straight back into your circle so he knows there’s no point stopping.

Yes. Yes. Good boy.

And then when he does it well, good boy. Good boy.

Make sure you always canter out of the collection. Then you can trot and walk once you’re on the strike.

Good boy. You did a perfect training video.

You can see he went this is too hard, I’ve got to stop, we go for a gallop, he goes she’s going to make me gallop every time I stop, I know once I do it well and once I actually take the wake and do what she wants me to do, I get to have a break anyway. I get to go out of it anyway.

It’s really raining at the moment. He’s like what’s this?

If I stop on my own, the exercise just keeps going and I have to do it again. When I stop on her terms, she gives me a big pat and I get to have a nice big walk.

I wonder if they can pick up the rain. It is pouring with rain right now.

Then I don’t need to worry oh God, the horse is going to break. You don’t want [inaudible 00:03:03] your ten meter circle and you’re constantly over riding it because you’re worried that something will happen.

Have trust and confidence that your horse knows he’s got to keep going. You’ll score better and enjoy it better.

Happy riding!
